Adventures in sewing

I think I need a new camera.  The camera I have is great, except that it doesn’t actually open anymore and it won’t take pictures.  I dropped it in Mexico and now it just makes a whirr noise when I try to turn it on.  This is why I can’t have nice stuff.  I’m not kidding.  I”m the worst.

I guess I should be happy that I even have a phone that takes pics.  I could be using some old flip phone that you have to press the numbers to actually text (sorry not sorry if that’s your phone.)

So, I signed up for some more sewing classes.  I’ve taken a basic sewing class a few times, but now I get to learn to make an apron (ha ha, like I’ll actually use that!!) and pajama bottoms (these will get more use than the apron.)  Actual pants!  Ok, drawstring pants, but with two legs, so almost actual pants.  I need to learn to sew so I can alter and make my own clothes, since I can’t depend on buying new stuff that’s ugly and expensive, and Goodwill ain’t always going to have awesome stuff for me.

Isn’t she cute???

And speaking of not being able to own nice stuff, I know someday when I’m sewing with nice fabric that I’ll sew over my finger and bleed all over the nice fabric.  Ugh, I actually just made myself a bit sick there.  That’s just such a gross image, and every time I think of it, my stomach rolls.  EVERY TIME I THINK OF IT.  Because now I can’t stop thinking of it.

Sweater, jeans, shoes – Torrid/Shirt – Forever 21/Sunglasses, necklace – Target

See my saggy jeans?  It’s not just my boots that sag.  And speaking of sagging boots, none of you have come up with a solution for that problem yet!  I can’t believe my idea of using chopsticks is the best. Hop to it peeps!

Ha…I said hop AND peeps, and it’s close to Easter.  NOT EVEN PLANNED.  Comedic genius here.

You can’t tell from the pics, but those are ducks on my glasses!!!  Way too cute.

My attempt at being carefree and graceful and funny.  Instead I’m just blurry and about to fall off a wall, just like any other day.

Too lazy to title this

I’m lazy.  I admit it.

I didn’t even want to do this post because I’m lazy.

Actually, I mostly didn’t want to write it because I do NOT like these pictures.  It’s dark when I get home now, and I’m still not ok with the location.  I think I need to go back to the bathroom at work for photos.

Dress, leggings, hair pin – Torrid / Boots, belt – Lane Bryant / Necklace – random store in Snohomish

And I have a weird expression in every single picture.  It’s really not how I normally look.  OR IS IT?

Anyway, back to me being lazy.

I have 4 bags of clothes to take the consignment shop, but I’m too lazy to iron them all.  I did go to the consignment shop this weekend, and almost didn’t take ANY of the bags, because I’m lazy.  But I managed to get one bag ready, and actually ironed about 4 things.  Why not do all of it?  LAZY.  Even though I KNEW I was going,  I almost didn’t take the bag that was actually ready.

Sweater – Goodwill (not sure what brand it is)

Oh, and this sweater? Love this sweater, it’s my Freddie Krueger sweater.  And I’ve worn it numerous times but it’s never made it into this blog because the pictures always look really weird.  And I’ve been too lazy to actually style it correctly.

My necklace – isn’t it pretty?  It was a birthday present from Steven.

My hairpin.  I used to wear cute stuff in my hair all the time, but I’ve gotten TOO LAZY to do it lately.  And it’s all jumbled mess in the bedroom too, because I’m too lazy to sort it all out and find anything that will actually complement my outfits.

Yesterday was Veteran’s day, and I had the day off of work.  I spent it doing laundry and dealing with a horrendous migraine.  Why did I spend all day doing laundry?  Because we had no clean clothes, because I’ve been too lazy to do a load a laundry.

Hey look, I finally finished my bracelet!!  It’s the byzantine design.

Why did it take so long, you ask?  Well, I was too lazy to get the tools I needed to finish it, and then once I actually had them, too lazy to just finish the darn thing.  But now it’s done, and it’s pretty!

I have a gazillion to-do lists started, and I’m just too darn lazy to get them finished.  I have lost any sort of momentum I might have ever had in life.

I also want to write a post about the holidays, and how I feel about them, but…ha, you already know.  I’m lazy!

Oh, I did get partnered up for the Christmas Swop!  Yay!  And I SHOULD have done the shopping for it this past 3-day weekend, but I was too lazy to it!  I get to send to Juanita Tortilla!  So much fun!  And I get to receive from Georgina at pretty when you smile.  Love that blog name.  I’ll post more when it’s all started.

Here’s what I’m currently reading.

I absolutely adore Freddie Mercury and Queen.  I went to see Hungarian Rhapsody last month with my brother Joe, and it’s amazing how much of a performer he truly was.  It’s a film about Queen performing a concert in Budapest.  As soon as Freddie was on stage it was remarkable.  And the whole band performed like magic.  So sad I never got to see them actually perform.  This book makes me sad, but that’s ok.  I wish it was actually better written.  It’s kind of choppy and jumps all over the place, but it has lots of great info and some fabulous photos.

And I know I had more lazy incidences, but I can’t remember them.  I should have written them down.

Fabulous Female – Sloane

Time for my second interview!  I interviewed my fabulous gorgeous friend Sloane, who makes very cool jewelry.  Go to her etsy site right now – SLOANE99.

She has also started to add some cool vintage items.

I met Sloanie years ago when we both worked together.  Through all the years of knowing her, she has been so instrumental in making me try new things.   She is the one who gets me to the jewelry making classes, or to the plays or concerts, or makes me believe I can be creative, if I just try.  I think she’s truly beautiful, and she is one of those annoying people who can’t seem to see that for themselves.  But I am not judging, we all have our own issues to deal with.  The best part of knowing her though?  She sends me funny stuff all day at work and makes me crack up at my desk.

Interview questions

1. Basics – age, ethnicity, first name, city, nicknames

45 (gulp) pure mutt, Sloane, Born in Sharon Connecticut currently living in Seattle.

Nicknames: Bun, Bunny, Bun Bun, Bunnyroo, Roo, Roobie and occasionally, Dumbass.

When I was little my dad used to call me Chicken…like Chicken Little, not Chicken Sh*t.

2. How long have we known each other?

Gosh, since YWCA days which would be what? Over 10 years?

3. 3 things you like about your body and one thing you don’t like.

3! Um, well, I’m pretty strong, I like my feet and my shoulders

4. How would you describe your body size without using numbers?

Average.  How’s that for a lame answer

5. Are you body confident?

Not often

6. What does “body-confident” mean to you?

To me it means not stressing over your looks, worrying about clothes fitting, if this or that makes my butt, thighs, arms, ankles, ears look ‘too big’.

7. If you had to describe your self-esteem to someone who didn’t know you, what would you say?

It fluctuates and depends on my overall mood which pretty much changes as often as the wind direction. Does that make me sounds crazy?

Don’t answer that.

8. What’s your favorite fruit?

Rambutan. It’s native to the Philippines. I could eat it all day long. It’s weird and yummy

9. Famous boy and girl crushes

Boy: Javier Bardem, Girl: Parker Posey

10. Favorite piece of clothing, and why

Probably my sarongs because they are comfy and remind me of summer

11. What’s a talent you wish you had?

I wish I had musical talent. If I could master any instrument it would be the fiddle.

12. What is a talent you DO have?

Well, I’m kinda crafty and I make a mean birthday cake and vegan chocolate cake

13. What makes you crazy proud of yourself?

I’m proud if my Peace Corps service. It was definitely life changing.

14. Name a movie you think everyone should watch.

Harold and Maude

15. What do you think of my blog? (Shameless self-promotion and gratuitous compliments)

I love your blog! You are my style icon! And the dogs are cute too.

16. Can I post a picture of you? (It’s okay to say no)

I don’t show up in pictures

17. Can I promote your blog/site?

But of course!

I love that she mentioned Parker Posey, because I always thought Parker should play Sloane in a movie.

It’s definitely a bit of learning for me, doing these interviews with my friends.  I learn a lot I didn’t know.  I am always shocked when my friends have self-esteem issues, just because I think they are so fabulous.  Of course, they have every right to have issues, it’s just shocking to me that they don’t see ALL of their awesomeness, like I do.

The main reason I want to do these interviews is to show that all types of people have all kinds of body issues, and that you never ever know what a person thinks about themselves until you ask, and that self-esteem is not a given.

It’s the wrapture

I took a bracelet wrapping class the other day.  My friend Sloane signed me up for it, otherwise I probably never would have done it.  She signs me up for lots of cool stuff.  Funny thing, we made them on the day of the supposed rapture…we made our “wrap” bracelets on rapture…get it?  It’ s my wrapture bracelet.  Whatever, it made me laugh all day.

I showed the bracelet to my sister-in-law, and she said “You are always out doing things.”  And I was surprised by this comment and denied it.  Really, I feel like I am never doing anything at all and that I should be more spontaneous and active and creative and just…out.  But I’ve had a few people who say things like my sister-in-law, that I’m trying new things and posting about cool things I do…..It’s so strange how my reality is so different from other people’s reality.  I wonder how life would be if I did half the things that I think about doing but don’t actually do, and what people would say then?  It’s nice to know that it seems like I’m being active, it makes me think that I give off a good impression, and that maybe I’m not such a sad sack.  And it makes me want to do even more!

Here’s what I be wearing today:

Dress – Target / Boots – Craigslist / Tights – ? / Necklace – I made it / Ring – ?

This wasn’t what I planned on wearing today, the other outfit didn’t quite work out.  But I already had the tights on, and I couldn’t waste the effort of tights donning.  I should actually wear this dress more often.  I’ve had it about 5 years and it makes me so happy.  It also reminds me of lots of different experiences when I first got it, so it’s also a bit of an emotional day when I wear it, but in a good way.  It also makes me feel sexy and cute, so it definitely needs to be shown more often!

Here, I’ll even give you a whole new pose, one of me sitting.  Oh, exciting day!
