Adventures in sewing

I think I need a new camera.  The camera I have is great, except that it doesn’t actually open anymore and it won’t take pictures.  I dropped it in Mexico and now it just makes a whirr noise when I try to turn it on.  This is why I can’t have nice stuff.  I’m not kidding.  I”m the worst.

I guess I should be happy that I even have a phone that takes pics.  I could be using some old flip phone that you have to press the numbers to actually text (sorry not sorry if that’s your phone.)

So, I signed up for some more sewing classes.  I’ve taken a basic sewing class a few times, but now I get to learn to make an apron (ha ha, like I’ll actually use that!!) and pajama bottoms (these will get more use than the apron.)  Actual pants!  Ok, drawstring pants, but with two legs, so almost actual pants.  I need to learn to sew so I can alter and make my own clothes, since I can’t depend on buying new stuff that’s ugly and expensive, and Goodwill ain’t always going to have awesome stuff for me.

Isn’t she cute???

And speaking of not being able to own nice stuff, I know someday when I’m sewing with nice fabric that I’ll sew over my finger and bleed all over the nice fabric.  Ugh, I actually just made myself a bit sick there.  That’s just such a gross image, and every time I think of it, my stomach rolls.  EVERY TIME I THINK OF IT.  Because now I can’t stop thinking of it.

Sweater, jeans, shoes – Torrid/Shirt – Forever 21/Sunglasses, necklace – Target

See my saggy jeans?  It’s not just my boots that sag.  And speaking of sagging boots, none of you have come up with a solution for that problem yet!  I can’t believe my idea of using chopsticks is the best. Hop to it peeps!

Ha…I said hop AND peeps, and it’s close to Easter.  NOT EVEN PLANNED.  Comedic genius here.

You can’t tell from the pics, but those are ducks on my glasses!!!  Way too cute.

My attempt at being carefree and graceful and funny.  Instead I’m just blurry and about to fall off a wall, just like any other day.

Too lazy to title this

I’m lazy.  I admit it.

I didn’t even want to do this post because I’m lazy.

Actually, I mostly didn’t want to write it because I do NOT like these pictures.  It’s dark when I get home now, and I’m still not ok with the location.  I think I need to go back to the bathroom at work for photos.

Dress, leggings, hair pin – Torrid / Boots, belt – Lane Bryant / Necklace – random store in Snohomish

And I have a weird expression in every single picture.  It’s really not how I normally look.  OR IS IT?

Anyway, back to me being lazy.

I have 4 bags of clothes to take the consignment shop, but I’m too lazy to iron them all.  I did go to the consignment shop this weekend, and almost didn’t take ANY of the bags, because I’m lazy.  But I managed to get one bag ready, and actually ironed about 4 things.  Why not do all of it?  LAZY.  Even though I KNEW I was going,  I almost didn’t take the bag that was actually ready.

Sweater – Goodwill (not sure what brand it is)

Oh, and this sweater? Love this sweater, it’s my Freddie Krueger sweater.  And I’ve worn it numerous times but it’s never made it into this blog because the pictures always look really weird.  And I’ve been too lazy to actually style it correctly.

My necklace – isn’t it pretty?  It was a birthday present from Steven.

My hairpin.  I used to wear cute stuff in my hair all the time, but I’ve gotten TOO LAZY to do it lately.  And it’s all jumbled mess in the bedroom too, because I’m too lazy to sort it all out and find anything that will actually complement my outfits.

Yesterday was Veteran’s day, and I had the day off of work.  I spent it doing laundry and dealing with a horrendous migraine.  Why did I spend all day doing laundry?  Because we had no clean clothes, because I’ve been too lazy to do a load a laundry.

Hey look, I finally finished my bracelet!!  It’s the byzantine design.

Why did it take so long, you ask?  Well, I was too lazy to get the tools I needed to finish it, and then once I actually had them, too lazy to just finish the darn thing.  But now it’s done, and it’s pretty!

I have a gazillion to-do lists started, and I’m just too darn lazy to get them finished.  I have lost any sort of momentum I might have ever had in life.

I also want to write a post about the holidays, and how I feel about them, but…ha, you already know.  I’m lazy!

Oh, I did get partnered up for the Christmas Swop!  Yay!  And I SHOULD have done the shopping for it this past 3-day weekend, but I was too lazy to it!  I get to send to Juanita Tortilla!  So much fun!  And I get to receive from Georgina at pretty when you smile.  Love that blog name.  I’ll post more when it’s all started.

Here’s what I’m currently reading.

I absolutely adore Freddie Mercury and Queen.  I went to see Hungarian Rhapsody last month with my brother Joe, and it’s amazing how much of a performer he truly was.  It’s a film about Queen performing a concert in Budapest.  As soon as Freddie was on stage it was remarkable.  And the whole band performed like magic.  So sad I never got to see them actually perform.  This book makes me sad, but that’s ok.  I wish it was actually better written.  It’s kind of choppy and jumps all over the place, but it has lots of great info and some fabulous photos.

And I know I had more lazy incidences, but I can’t remember them.  I should have written them down.

True Love (Letter T)

Sharpies – my favorite office supply

It’s the wrapture

I took a bracelet wrapping class the other day.  My friend Sloane signed me up for it, otherwise I probably never would have done it.  She signs me up for lots of cool stuff.  Funny thing, we made them on the day of the supposed rapture…we made our “wrap” bracelets on rapture…get it?  It’ s my wrapture bracelet.  Whatever, it made me laugh all day.

I showed the bracelet to my sister-in-law, and she said “You are always out doing things.”  And I was surprised by this comment and denied it.  Really, I feel like I am never doing anything at all and that I should be more spontaneous and active and creative and just…out.  But I’ve had a few people who say things like my sister-in-law, that I’m trying new things and posting about cool things I do…..It’s so strange how my reality is so different from other people’s reality.  I wonder how life would be if I did half the things that I think about doing but don’t actually do, and what people would say then?  It’s nice to know that it seems like I’m being active, it makes me think that I give off a good impression, and that maybe I’m not such a sad sack.  And it makes me want to do even more!

Here’s what I be wearing today:

Dress – Target / Boots – Craigslist / Tights – ? / Necklace – I made it / Ring – ?

This wasn’t what I planned on wearing today, the other outfit didn’t quite work out.  But I already had the tights on, and I couldn’t waste the effort of tights donning.  I should actually wear this dress more often.  I’ve had it about 5 years and it makes me so happy.  It also reminds me of lots of different experiences when I first got it, so it’s also a bit of an emotional day when I wear it, but in a good way.  It also makes me feel sexy and cute, so it definitely needs to be shown more often!

Here, I’ll even give you a whole new pose, one of me sitting.  Oh, exciting day!

Fabulous Female – Brenna

I decided to interview all the different women in my life and get some of their thoughts about body image and such.  My first victim is my awesome gorgeous friend Brenna.  Brenna makes all those cool hair flowers I wear, and has a site where she sells those and other cool and vintage items, check out SammieGirlProducts.

I met Brenna about five years ago at work.  We have both since moved on to better jobs, but stayed friends.  All I can say about Brenna is that she is amazing.  She is fearless and will try anything at least once.  She totally gets things done, which I wish I did more of.  She is really creative and artistic and always wants to try new things.

She also taught me that big girls can have fun with clothes.  When I met her, I was dressing well, but not as fun as I do now.  She showed me that big girls can be quite cute actually.  When I met Brenna, I was doing better with my self-esteem and appearance, but she totally helped me ramp it up.  She tries absolutely everything…how could I not try to keep up with her???  She’s gorgeous besides being so cool.

On to the interview!!  (I’m still working on the questions for future posts, but these are the ones I really wanted to ask.)  Brenna also issued a warning with these answers – she had been having a bad day, so some of her answer might be sarcastic.

1. Basics – age, ethnicity, first name, city, nicknames

Brenna, 35, Caucasian, Seattle WA…. Sometimes I am called BB, BrennaVickyJudy or Brennatori…. more than nicknames however, I have learned with my name that often times people appear frightened to pronounce it. My favorite wrong names that I have been called are Gretta and Donna…. well clearly they are so close to Brenna.

2. How long have we known each other?

I would say five or six years, but we are like old souls and go together well… 🙂

3. 3 things you like about your body and one thing you don’t like.

I love my lips, eyes and butt…. Hate hate hate my hair…. I had a great hairdresser fix a mistake an old hairdresser did, but it is gonna take at least six months for a decent grow out….

4. How would you describe your body size without using numbers?

My body size without numbers. Wow, that depends…. sometimes I would say Chris Farley/ Jabba the Hut and other times I feel like a princess…. Is that what you mean? And not Princess Leia… she had issues….

5. Are you body confident?

I am not body confident, but I am able to pull it off apparently…… I always get/hear comments such as “For a big girl, you are confident, funny….etc” I don’t know exactly what that means….As if I was a different shape-big or small, short or fat I apparently would not be as confident, funny…and no I do not think that is a compliment…. It makes me feel bad.

Brenna - being her darling self

6. What does “body-confident” mean to you?

Body confidence means.., uh, er…. wtf does it mean?? I guess for me it means, yes I would like to be a few pounds lighter, but the reality is that may bot happen so if I at least exercise and I am still active I have settled with my body…. but it is always a work in progress so I don’t know… I have been skinny and I am fat. Yes there is a difference in how people treat me with the weight… however, at this point I actually like my life now…..

7. If you had to describe your self-esteem to someone who didn’t know you, what would you say?

Strangely I have been told I am very confident. I don’t feel that way though not at all… So I guess faking till I make it has been working, unless I am sitting in front of a mirror naked…

8. What’s your favorite fruit?

My favorite fruit….. oh peaches… I love peaches.

9. Famous boy and girl crushes

Boy crush hands down, Nicolas Cage… Girl crush….Emma Caulfield. She is kind of a firecracker. I love her.

10. Favorite piece of clothing, and why

My pajamas because it means I am done with the day and I can relax.

11. What’s a talent you wish you had?

No thought… Rock star… I wish I could sing because I really want to be a rock star. I mean I can sing but whether people want to hear it is a whole other subject all together.

12. What is a talent you DO have?

I throw kick ass Halloween parties… and can cook like no other. I can proudly say Paula Dean has NOTHING on me…Really!

13. What makes you crazy proud of yourself?

I just graduated with my masters degree. I also have decided to pursue a PhD after about a year break!

14. Name a movie you think everyone should watch.

Timer. This is a great little flick. Love it.  Also I HIGHLY recommend Amelie, very cute film  and Harvie Krumpet…This movie is touching and I have never cried  so much but I highly recommend it.

15. What do you think of my blog? (Shameless self-promotion and gratuitous compliments)

You have a blog? Just kidding. I love it and read it every day you post on FB.

16. Can I post a picture of you? (It’s okay to say no)

Of course just not the chicken soup explosion one!

17. Can I promote your blog/site?

Yes!!! Please do.

Please send me some cute pics too!

I also sent you my kick ass haunted house cake picture

So, I was surprised by some of Brenna’s answers…in a weird way, I feel like I know her better now.  Go check out her website!!!

H Lover Craft (Letter H)

Hey there!!  My lists are lacking a bit lately, sorry about that.  I can’t help it if all my interests seem to revolve around the “S.”

Nothing jumps out at me….I like hot dogs and hamburgers and hummus, but not enough to list them as a favorite.  Although we do go to this awesome restaurant in the International District and get their hot pot…it’s SO good.  I think we need to go this week.

  • Christina Hendricks – oh goodness, she’s gorgeous.  I want her hair, and her wardrobe from Mad Men
  • Howl’s Moving Castle – love love LOVE this movie.  The book is good too, but I just adore the movie.
  • John Hughes – I can’t even pick a favorite, I love his movies from the 80’s.  Pretty In Pink, Some Kind of Wonderful, The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles…seriously, I could go on and on.
  • Harry Potter – yep

  • Victor Hugo – I first read Les Miserables back in high school and loved it, and when I read Toilers of the Sea, I cried for days.
  • Haunted by Chuck Palahniuk – this book is so weird.  It’s not even one of my actual favorites, yet I’ve read it numerous times and it still sticks with me.  There is just something about it.  And I read they are making it into a movie, and I’m curious to see how they’ll achieve it.  If you want something a little different to read, read this.
  • Harry Potter – yes, I do love my Harry Potter

  • Hall & Oates – my mom used to play their records when I was really little and we would dance together.  Then when I met Steve we both talked about Hall & Oates, he even sang Sara Smile to me at karaoke! (He’ll deny it of course)
  • Hold On Loosely by .38 Special – I love this song, it makes me happy every time I hear it.

  • Hats – I used to be called Blossom back in my younger days because I always wore some kind of funky hat.  I’ve lessened up on the hats, but I’m slowly starting to wear more again.

  • Hyperbole and a Half – this woman is hilarious, and I love her blog.  Her drawings just make me crack up even more
  • HonestlyWTF – she posts the most amazing pictures and items on her blog, and sometimes there is even a tutorial on how to make some awesome stuff
  • Happydelusions – posts lots of cool craft stuff and shows, I mostly just love the pictures
